The 09 Winter Trail Classic was held out of White City last weekend. And with very high and dirty/muddy water I thought it would be a low weight day. But not as low as it turned out. Al R. and myself started out in the lower end flippin some buggy whips in an area that was fairly high but clean water. We caught 2 small keepers their and had a couple more come loose. Then after a few hours with no luck we decided to head back to the lake and flip reeds for the rest of the day. It was a good call. With a couple hours left we started flippin every reed patch we could and ended up catching 4 more small keepers. We knew we didn't have a chance to get a check with around 6 pounds but it's always nice to go in with a limit no matter what the size. When we walked up to the stand before weigh-in and everyone found out we had a limit they said you might win it. I told them they were crazy. But we were certainly surprised when we took 3rd place with 6.6 lbs and got $500. 1st was Bobby & Matt Smith with 9+lbs and 5 lbs was in the money. The Winter Trail paid out close to $4,000 at the classic, that's not bad at all.
